Into The West ~ Annie Lennox
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head Night is falling You have come to journey's end Sleep now Dream-of the ones who came before They are calling From across a distant shore Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see all of your fears will pass away Safe in my arms You're only sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come To carry you home And all will turn to silver glass A light on the water All souls pass Hope fades Into the world of night Through shadows falling Out of memory and time Don't say We have come now to the end White shores are calling You and I will meet again And you'll be here in my arms Just sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come To carry you home And all will turn to silver glass A light on the water Grey ships pass Into The West |
It was my birthday on Sunday. I've just today found out I share my birthday with Allan Hyde (Godric from True Blood), so that's kinda cool. I am now the proud owner of Lyra, a Sony Pocket Reader. It's so awesome omg! I really didn't see the fuss over e readers and books but now I have one I don't know what I'd do without it! I named it Lyra because it's pink, and Lyra was the first girl's name from a book (His Dark Materials, just incase you couldn't work it out) I thought of. Haha. I got some little things from my mum, and there is a parcel on it's way from my dad. It should be here today, hopefully. It was a strange birthday this year, first one I've spent away from home. But it was just me and my boyfriend and it was nice. I did manage to upset myself a few times but I was expecting to, so it was ok. Got in a few minutes after midnight. It was an easy drive this time, about 10.5 hours, no traffic to speak of other than the perpetual bottleneck in Columbus, OH, where I-70 meets umpteen bajillion other highways all at once. There was snow on the ground the entire 600 miles of my trip, which was novel-- granted, south of Indy it was just a dusting, but everywhere else it was thick enough to at least cover the grass. The roads were all clear, though, so that was good. I got here too late to greet either my mom or my grandfather, both of whom had gone to bed already, but did say hi to my dad and put the resident mean cat into the master bedroom before bringing Schmendrick in. I got him unpacked, fed, and watered, and he promptly told me what he thought of the trip by having a hairball all over the freshly cleaned carpet. That's my boy. :P Now he's chillaxing (note use of special verb just to annoy Overslept this morning, am leaving for MD 3 hours later than planned. Urgh. Said goodbyes, stopped at music library to return recalled books (recalling a book right at the start of break? Not cool, people!). Sad cat is sad in his box in the car. But I have a ridiculous audiobook to keep me entertained for the next 12 hours. I'm loving the new commercial for Pysch. I wish I knew how to quit you. DEAR DIARY I've been thinking for ages that I have to grow up and leave all the fangirl flailyness behind. But today, I've come upon a revelation. I don't need to grow up. I can be 28 (soon 29) still fangirl over how awesome Harry Potter is, I can still squee over any member of the cast of Lord of the Rings. This year has been a big one for me. I'm still working myself out, dealing with being homesick, missing the cats and my friend (note, friend. I'm really upset that some of my so called besties haven't made any attempt to stay in touch. But that's another story). Dear Bones, For quite a while LiveJournal has had three profile options for gender: male / female / unspecified. Someone decided to "fix" that, for whatever commercial or gender-normative reason, and limit choices to male and female. Taylor Lautner (the kid who plays Jacob in the Twilight films) hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend. I thought he did a decent job, though most of the writing for his skits was rather terrible, and I appreciated that he seemed totally down with making fun of himself (both wrt the gratuitous New Moon wolfcake fever and his relationship with Taylor Swift). At any rate, of course there was a sketch making fun of the Twilight phenomenon, and I thought it was easily the best part of the episode. I particularly love Taylor's excited little bounce & squeal right near the end. There are so many worthy causes in the world, but one of mine is The Riverkids Project, which helps kids and families in Cambodia. It's terribly common for girls and women to get lured or kidnapped into sex work, and the Riverkids workers help them avoid that and escape if necessary. I learned about this from an LJ friend and the project just touches my heart. My fine is $ 505.60 Look who finally left the house again! Together! TWICE IN TWO DAYS, EVEN. Finally just got around to watching a couple episodes of Criminal Minds I've had sitting on the PVR forever. One had Jim Parrack in it, the other had Mark Rolston. It's like a Supernatural reunion all up in heyah. |
